BEHIND THE SCENES

The Tech behind the Experience

The Gunpowder Plot uses some of the most advanced technology around to create the sense that you are truly transported to Jacobean London.

Scroll down to find out more about the tech behind the experience.

Virtual Reality is our secret to fully immerse you into our 360 world. At three moments throughout the experience, you step into our virtual world. A new reality layered on top.

We work with award-winning Figment Productions for our VR scenes, blending real actors into our virtual world. For The Gunpowder Plot, our Digital Cast includes Harry Potter's Tom Felton

"My ultimate reward would be if when people are recounting the experience, they don’t specify which parts were VR and which parts were live performance"

Simon Reveley

Temperature, scent, taste, touch and sound - our technical and creative teams work nothing short of magic to ensure your five senses ignite and have you convinced you are in Jacobean London, whether you are creeping around in the vaults or travelling along the Thames!

Pyrotechnics, surround sound, and motion sensors are included in the catalogue of effects we use. We even work with a smell curator that helps us to create bespoke scents to be planted around the attraction so even your nose will be tuned into 1605.

In The Gunpowder Plot, we use:

23 FANS ACROSS MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

7 DIFFERENT SCENTS

OVER 460LT OF COMPRESSED AIR

360 ENVIRONMENT

There is more to this than a simple facade. This is a fully 360 environment that builds multi-sensory effects one on top of the other.

SEE IT, FEEL IT, LIVE IT

When we talk of Layered Reality, this is what we mean. We create a world that can truly be explored and experienced, one that brings the magic to life through the use of technology.

In The Gunpowder Plot we use:

24,000 INDIVIDUAL LED LIGHTING PIXELS
55 CUSTOM MADE CANDLES
OVER 150 THEATRICAL LIGHTS

We use Projection Mapping at points through the experience, to layer one reality on top of another.

Projection Mapping is a video technique that allows mapping of video onto a specific surface. By 'mapping' the surface, surfaces become a screen into another world, bringing it to life as if it was always meant to.

THE SURFACE BECOMES A CANVAS

In The Gunpowder Plot, we have installed:

18 PROJECTORS

22 MONITORS

73 COMPUTERS

A common question we have about Virtual Reality is whether you will experience motion sickness. The reason this is common with headset use is because movement in the virtual world doesn't line up with your physical world. So, if your eyes are seeing you move but your body isn't feeling it, you'll get motion sick.

Our experiences are all about a 360 environment, with the aim of removing the barrier between VR and the real world.

We integrate Virtual Reality with state-of-the-art motion simulators to mimic your virtual movements in the real world.

In The Gunpowder Plot, we use:

32 MOTORS

16 RAMS

4 MOTION RIGS FOR MOVEMENT EFFECTS
